The Soundboard

The soundboard is the voice, the soul of the guitar. Voicing this element is something All Four takes great pride in, crafting one at a time, listening to the “tap tone” of each top and guiding it to optimal blooming prior to attaching it to the back and sides. Through the brace carving process, All Four hones in on this blooming effect unique to each top, a process that needs careful attention. All Four Guitars offers soundboards in Sitka Spruce, Adirondack Spruce, Western Red Cedar and Mahogany.

Our Soundboard Woods

Sitka Spruce

Sitka Spruce

Sitka is the most common and readily available soundboard material, a favorite amongst many builders and large guitar companies alike. Known for tight grains, stiffness, and its light weight, Sitka has a responsive dynamic range of sound for all models and playing styles.

Adirondack Spruce

Adirondack Spruce

Adirondack Spruce provides an extremely responsive and punchy top. With wider grains and a denser composition than Sitka, these soundboards offer something a bit more lively for a player looking to stand out in the crowd.

Red Cedar

Red Cedar

Red Cedar is most commonly used on classical guitars, but it can offer a distinctly warm and lush sound on a street string instrument as well. A softer wood than spruce, cedar is not as Bass heavy heavy and provides a great option for our Parlor models and finger style players.
